How Does Diabetes Self-Management Education Help?
In Maine, DSME participants who completed the program reported great improvement in their health. More than 77% lowered their A1c value, which means their average blood glucose levels went down.

- 18.5% more had dilated eye exams
- 55.8% reported fewer emergency room visits
- 68.2% reported fewer diabetes-related hospitalizations
