Cardiovascular Health Screening Workshop

Target Audience:
This workshop is designed for all levels of nursing personnel and other health professionals who work in physicians' offices, in home-health agencies, nursing homes, schools, hospitals, and community programs and who are involved in cardiovascular disease prevention, detection, treatment, or counseling.

  

At the conclusion of this workshop participants will:

  • Have a better knowledge of exactly what constitutes cardiovascular disease including the risk indicators.
  • Have updated information re: cholesterol and hands-on cholesterol screening training.
  • Be familiar with overall dietary recommendations for fat, cholesterol, complex carbohydrates, fiber, and be able to recognize appropriate foods in a heart healthy diet.
  • Be able to list the benefits of physical activity in the maintenance of cardiovascular health, know how physical activity impacts on the other CVD risk factors, and learn specific strategies for initiating physical activities that positively affect cardiovascular health.
  • Be able to more effectively counsel clients and patients.
  • Be trained instructors and specialists in proper blood pressure measurement technique and equipment calibration.
